| Good News - Thursday, January 26, 2012
Ms Jane Austin was successful at last week’s interviews and we are delighted to welcome her to the post of P2/3 teacher, maternity leave. She will begin her Mondays and Fridays on Monday 6th February. Many thanks go to Mrs Nicol for swapping her days to accommodate supply availability and to Mrs Alex Middler for helping us out with P2/3.
We are also very lucky to have the continued free and gratis excellent support of a volunteer morning’s teaching form Mr Alexander Malley who comes in every Wednesday without fail to help out teachers and classes throughout the school and even brings his own biscuit! We are very, very lucky to have him.
We have had a flurry of deliveries with the money we have spent on new reading books and new resources. Mrs Anderson is madly covering books and soon we should have lots of new books coming home in school bags. Thanks go to all of you for your support.
Grants
We have been lucky enough to receive a Britannia Building Society Grant of £350 for Maths resources that has been spent on special resources and games for Mrs Bolton to use with pupils on her visits. Thanks go to her for helping spend the money. We have also received money to pay for Generation Science Visits for Science week of £250 from the British Science association.
Stop Press - The Big Lottery Fund (Communities) has awarded the school £2000 to replace our condemned items of PE Equipment. Mrs Stickles will be thrilled and had agreed, if we were successful, to offer a gymnastics club after school to allow us to try out the new equipment when it arrives. She will be very excited when she gets the chance to get out her catalogues tomorrow.

| News from P1/2 & P6/7 - Thursday, January 26, 2012
P1/2 will be studying birds this term. Mrs Watt will be supported by visits from Wendy Mayne from the RSPB, beginning on Friday 27th January when the class will be participating in the Big Schools Birdwatch. We have put bird feeders all around the school and we hope we can attract some birds into the school grounds. If you have any interesting feathers we could use for observational drawings we would be delighted to borrow them. Thank you.
This term P6/7 are studying WW2. We have been able to book a workshop visitor who will come and deliver a two day interactive experience to the class to enhance their project focus. We have also been able to secure a visit from Mr Mitchell who will deliver a day of WW2 art. We hope to see the results up on the walls very soon.
